CostSlab is a Houston-focused cost information site for concrete and epoxy projects — built so a homeowner can learn the real local price before talking to anyone who wants to sell them something.
Homeowners planning a driveway, patio, slab or garage floor face two bad options online: national averages that do not match Houston, or sales pages that hide the price until a salesperson calls.
CostSlab fixes that with four in-depth cost guides (driveways, epoxy garage floors, stamped patios and slabs), a price index for 12 Houston suburbs, and a calculator that shows its math line by line instead of producing a mysterious number. The guides are written for the Gulf Coast specifically — expansive clay soil, humidity and curing windows, flood-zone moisture testing and master-planned HOA rules all change what a Houston job costs and how it should be built.
Every price on CostSlab is compiled from at least two published sources and cross-checked against quotes from Houston-area contractors; the site is re-checked at least twice a year.
Sources. Our primary sources are the Angi Houston cost guides (which publish project averages and ranges from real Houston jobs), HomeGuide pricing data for Texas and Houston, and per-square-foot rates quoted by contractors working in the Houston metro. Where sources disagree, we publish the range that covers them rather than cherry-picking the number that sounds best.
How the calculator uses the data. The calculator multiplies your project's size by the published per-square-foot ranges for that finish or system, applies the thickness and removal adjustments contractors actually charge, and localizes the result with the suburb price index — an adjustment for local labor rates, housing age, lot access and HOA requirements in each of the 12 suburbs we cover.
How often we update. Prices are re-checked at least twice a year against fresh published data and new local quotes, and every guide carries a visible "Last updated" date. Concrete and coating prices move with materials and labor markets; a guide that cannot tell you when it was last checked is asking for trust it has not earned.
What our prices are not. They are estimates for planning and quote-checking, not bids. Your real price depends on your slab, your soil, your finish and your contractor — which is why every guide ends the same way: get written, itemized quotes, and use our numbers to judge them.
Photos. The photographs on CostSlab are illustrative images, labelled as such in page captions and in the footer of every page. They show typical Houston-area project types and finishes — they are not photos of specific jobs completed by any contractor we refer.
CostSlab is an information and referral service. We are not a licensed contractor, we do not pour concrete or coat floors, and we do not warranty anyone's work.
When a homeowner asks for quotes, we connect the request with independent local professionals, starting with one exclusive founding partner in the Katy – Sugar Land – Richmond territory (see For Contractors). Those professionals are solely responsible for their own licensing, insurance, pricing, workmanship and warranties. Our business model is the partnership and, in time, advertising on this site — never a cut of your job, and never selling your request to a list of bidders.
